“Three days later the man died” – a missionary moment
By Festus Ndukwe
Israel Wade, a CAPRO missionary trained at the Nigerian Bible Translation Trust, working on the Bible translation for the Dukkawa people, relates “It was under a tree, on a Saturday, and I came with the book of Jonah translated in the language. We read it to different audiences. I read how Jonah had run away, not willing to go to Nineveh and how God caught up with him leading to his eventual obedience to God’s call. As I was reading, a man said, ‘Is this man reading my language or is he reading it from memory?’ He came close, peeped, drew back and sat down. I continued reading and stopped, and asked one or two questions. I overheard the same man saying, ‘Could this be what Danjuma, the missionary, has been trying to tell us? So, it is God who actually sent Danjuma to give us this message and not human beings?’ Later, on a Sunday the man and his two sons went over to Danjuma’s asking him to lead them to Jesus and Danjuma did. About three days later the man died.” From CAPRO’s book: “From Africa to the World: the CAPRO story” by Festus Ndukwe, published 2019, page 194.
