Lindani and Nombuso Mazibuko
Zulu missionaries and mobilizers from South Africa
I was a new believer on a short-term mission trip to Switzerland when I felt the Lord asking me to serve Him fully in missions. I was scared of the financial aspect after learning that I’d not be getting a salary for this work. Therefore, I made a decision not to get married. I knew what I was getting myself into, and I didn’t want someone else’s child to suffer because of my choices. One year later, I met a Zulu girl who was also ready to suffer for the Lord, and we were okay to suffer together.
My wife, Nombuso, and I are now mobilizers and trainers with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. We travel, recruit, and mobilize people for our regions and the world. We also recruit for YWAM, and we are not suffering.
I grew up in a Christian home, but none of us was born again. I dropped out of university due to financial constraints, and soon, I got a job. I got retrenched after six months.
My neighbour told me about training by World Changers Academy (WCA). They trained young unemployed people, and I attended since I wasn’t doing much. An Indian lady spoke to us about her salvation journey.
I’m a Zulu, and our history with Indians isn’t rosy—but the Lord used an Indian to draw me to Him. The next day she came with a bunch of Bibles and asked us to read and tell people what had happened to us.
WCA recommended 10 of my classmates to YWAM, but only seven of us could go. We attended a six-month Discipleship Training School ( DTS.) When we arrived, I faced the first shock—we needed to pay for it. I only had about R1,50c with me. We risked being sent back home if we didn’t have money.
Three weeks into our training, a white lady showed up at the training centre, and the leaders summoned us. When she saw us, she shouted, “It’s them!” I wanted to run, thinking we were being accused of a crime. But it turned out that she had heard from the Lord about seven young Zulus who needed the money for missions.
She gave R12000 towards our training. For someone who had never had such an experience, this was my introduction to trusting God for finances.
It was after this that we went to Switzerland. It was terrific preaching to the West and seeing them get saved. I’m 40 years old and have been in YWAM for 18 years. I’m now the Founder and Director of YWAM Port Elizabeth.
Young people, listen to God, hear Him, obey Him, and don’t quit.
