Missionary profile- E from Malawi

By Mercy Kambura

Once, we shared with two Muslims how God created Adam and Eve, how they sinned, and sin entered the world. One was so broken and eager to hear if there was a remedy for this sin. We then shared about Jesus and his death on the cross. He said he’d do anything for this Jesus who remedied this sin. We’re missionaries in the Sahel region and happy to see God draw people to Himself. I got saved after hearing a sermon from John 3:16. This simple scripture came to me anew; it’s like I was hearing it for the first time. I responded to the altar call and got saved. Later, I joined the World Mission Center (now Blantyre School of Mission.) I felt a firm conviction to become a missionary. I learned that this was God’s vision and the burden for the world, and I wanted to be part of it. God gave me a vision for the Twa in Burundi. I joined CAPRO, and from Malawi, I was sent to Kenya for further missions training at the CAPRO School of Missions. I shared my vision for Burundi, and when I was done in 2003, I was sent to Togo to serve as a missionary as I also learned French. I then served in Burundi for six years as a missionary under CAPRO. While on a break, I met a fellow CAPRO missionary in Kenya, fell in love, and married. Not immediately, of course. We moved together to Burundi. We later had to move back to Kenya for health reasons. We joined the missionaries team in CAPRO in Kenya and served for seven years until 2020. We took time to pray, and God led us into a different ministry, Operation Mobilisation (OM). They sent us to the Sahel region. We’re reaching the locals using Discovery Bible Study (DBS.) We move around the communities doing payer walks. When we connect with one person, they lead us to a family, and we do a Bible study with them. They then go out to share with others, and we find out how the sharing was. If it was successful, we ask them to invite the people they shared with. There’s a vast land that needs to be harvested; the harvest is ready. The church shouldn’t be satisfied where they are.

#pray:

  • For God to raise people who could stand with us in prayers.
  • For good health.
  • As the Lord leads you.
