“She gathered her charms” – a missionary moment
One of the highlights from the past two months was when a witch doctor visited our Kailele church plant. This year, we started this church, and the witch doctor approached Mzee Lokol, who is leading the church plant, expressing her desire to renounce witchcraft and become a believer. Initially, I wasn’t sure if I had heard Mzee Lokol correctly, but as he persistently asked us to help him pray for her, burn her charms, and support her conversion to Christianity, I realized the situation was serious. We eventually went to her hut, where we began singing and praising the Lord while she gathered her charms—some from surprising places I wouldn’t have imagined had I entered that hut. As we prayed and watched the charms go up in flames, I felt a profound sense of reassurance. Despite the challenges and the sometimes slow progress, I know the gospel is taking root in this land. God is faithful to his promise that the whole world will be filled with his glory as the waters cover the sea. This experience has greatly encouraged me and strengthened my conviction to continue reaching out to these people. I am hopeful that, like this woman, others will come to know Jesus and experience the transformative power of the gospel.
