Missionary story – Solomon Babaker
By Mercy Kambura
“My name is Solomon Babaker from the JumJum tribe. I am a refugee in Doro Mabaan, South Sudan, for eight years. I was a Muslim before 2014, and my family was experiencing witchcraft and visited witchdoctors. They were drinking marisa (local alcohol).
An Ethiopian man called Getachew came to our place; he was teaching a youth group in the church and had given an assignment to the youth group. The assignment was to share the good news with at least two people each week. A guy called Joseph Idris came to me and shared the Good News with me.
One Saturday, he took me to the group in church, and I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. Then I started a Bible study with that group. I was learning about Jesus Christ in that group, and that is where I met Getachew, who was leading the group. My wife also became a Christian, and we pray together.
I became strong in my Christian faith and in sharing the gospel. Then, the Jumjum church assigned me as an evangelist. During this time, I started a group with my neighbours (men, women, and children) where I shared about Jesus Christ. After some time, I went back to Wadaga, my homeland, and shared the Good News with my tribe.
I have been doing this for at least one year. In 2018 I had a chance to attend a special Bible study training in Juba for six months through the Nubian missionaries.”
