A missionary from Mozambique to Zambia and Mozambique

I’m a missionary in Mocuba, Mozambique. My decision to become a Christian came after God saved me from a near-death experience, where I was buried deep in mud – literally.

Growing up, my father was a teacher, and one time he had to move to another village. My parents were not sure how life would be there, so my grandmother asked that I stay with her. In Mozambique culture, children are said to belong to the maternal grandmother.

However, she was a Muslim and a witch doctor. I would accompany her to pick roots in the forest for ‘treatment.’ We also practiced Islam.

After a while, I moved back to my parent’s house. By then, my parents had received Christ and had even become missionaries. I could see their passion for people. I accompanied them to the mission fields when they went to preach. My father and my pastor at church would often talk about unreached people.

Being in that environment was a challenge, given the different life I had with my granny. My family had devotions every night. I flatly refused to attend on Sundays. After being forced to go, I attended a few times, but I was adamant about not receiving Christ.

One day, God orchestrated scary and painful events that helped to change my mind. God reminded me clearly that He was the owner of my life. I had a car accident and was the only one who got hurt. We ended up in a river, and I was carried away. I had no hope for life; my legs were firmly cemented in the silt and mud. A fisherman found me.

I started seeking God after this scary ordeal. A message from Revelation 15 touched my heart, and I gave my life to my master, Jesus.

From that time, I committed to serve God. I’d share this message of the cross anywhere and everywhere with whomever cared to listen. I remembered my father’s work in missions, and I wanted to do that. I met a woman, and after sharing what was in my heart about missions, she supported me. In 2019, I took my first missions trip to Zambia.

So began my missionary journey. I’m now in Mocuba serving with a ministry and with my church, making disciples and reaching the unreached.

The church has a vital role in missions; the Great Commission was given by Jesus himself, who called each of us individually to be a part of His business.
