Missionary profile – Rev. Faith Mugera

Rev. Faith Mugera

Pastor, Trainer, and Mobilizer with the Nairobi Chapel

Immediately after graduating college as a twenty-three-year-old girl, I was asked to consider interning at the Nairobi Chapel, and I accepted. When I completed my internship, I didn’t want anything else to do with ‘full-time ministry.’ I was done and dusted.

Later, I packed my bags and went to the United States to do a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management, my other passion. When I returned home, God found me again; it was the right time. I couldn’t run.

I’m now working as a pastor at Nairobi Chapel. I initially started in the social justice space. Nairobi Chapel seeks to see spiritual transformation happening alongside social transformation. We have communities around us that are broken, underserved and poor. I’ve been mobilizing the Church to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I’m also in charge of our church’s Global Partnerships.

The Nairobi Chapel has a strategy to provide opportunities for those who are certain about their call as Frontline Visionaries to incubate, grow, mature and launch their ministries.

From my growth as a student, the leadership saw something in me that they needed to explore by exposing me to intentional ministry. That internship intended to ask, “is God calling you to ‘full-time ministry?”

We’re still helping young people listen to God and figure out their calling via the internship programme. We expose them to the same opportunities I got – short-term missions, high school ministry, worship and all aspects of ministry.

I’ve now served in this position for about 15 years. Recently, my mom confessed to me that when she was carrying me in her belly, she felt and was convinced that I was a special child, and she wasn’t surprised that I was serving the Lord in ministry.

God has called all of us to serve him. Matthew 28 says, “Go, ye, therefore …” All of you – not a particular people, but everyone. This call is for you, as an African as well.

Global missions had missed out on what the African Church could offer because we held back. At Nairobi Chapel, we asked the west, “what can you receive from the African Church?”

We’re now sending African missionaries abroad!

Do you want to know how we’re doing this and how you can claim your place in missions? Watch my interview with AfriGO Conversations as I talk about how the Nairobi Chapel is training missionaries for the West and how God is using Africans to revive the Church.  https://youtu.be/XB6OMEGksdo?feature=shared
