Missionary profile – Paul

By Mercy Kambura

Kenyan Missionary

The Jesus Film was my introduction to salvation. Once the credits started rolling, I knew I needed this Jesus. Much later, as a university student, while attending the Commission Conference organized by the Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS), I first heard about the Great Commission and my role.

God spoke to me through John 20:21, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” On that day, this call felt very personal; God was sending me to go to the nations. I became very emotional when I learned that people are dying without hearing the Word of God. I’m now a missionary serving among an unreached people group in Kenya.

My father passed on when I was in class one. Fending for eight children was no mean feat for my now single mom. Seeing her struggles fueled our desire to work hard, and I ended up at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

I started reaching out to the unreached in 2012, immediately after graduating from university. I was trained by Community Health Evangelism (CHE) and later went for missions exposure among the unreached Watta people of Kenya.

I’m now serving among a different unreached people group. I work with Full Gospel Churches of Kenya. I have served as a missionary for eleven years. My greatest lessons are being patient, looking at God and not people, cultivating vertical relationships through prayers and word meditation, dying to self, and focusing on sharing the Gospel, not achievement or outcome.

The most challenging part of my life as a missionary is missing an opportunity to spread the Gospel or new converts backsliding.

I want to encourage the Church to pray first for the missionaries in the field because they go through a lot. Secondly, pray for unreached people groups. The Church should visit missionaries and dedicate a good share of its revenue to missions. The Church should prioritize missions.

#Pray:

  • For good health and protection of missionaries.
  • For favour and breakthrough.
  • Against the stronghold of witchcraft.
