Missionary profile – Agnes Joy Natukunda
Agnes Joy Natukunda
Recently, Rev. Alex Alinaitwe, Archdeacon of Nkoma Archdeaconry in Western Uganda, allowed several of us to visit the Rwamwanja refugee camp to encourage the people and distribute some essentials.
Two ladies and a gentleman from our Anglican church heeded the call to go. A friend offered to drive us, though we had to fuel his vehicle. It took 8 hours to reach the centre.
We found people from Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo who had been waiting for us in the church since morning. They were mainly women and children, and most had come to the camp because of war and instability in their countries.
Many had been there for several years, and they still await peace and stability in their countries.
There is an Anglican church in the refugee camp, and the Lay Reader, Mr. Nicholas Naturinda, and the Archdeacon filled us in on the work.
We were pleased to hear the church is doing many good works in that camp, including crusades, fellowships and a large primary school of over 1800 students.
We were interested to hear about the trauma counselling programmes that the church presents in conjunction with the Bible Society of Uganda.
Many refugees are traumatised from sexual assaults, loss of loved ones and property, and the pain and being away from their countries.
Remember them when you pray.
