“I want to go back to the field and be trained” – a missionary moment

A young man from one of the universities I mobilize at recently completed his degree in human rights and ethics. He is passionate about the work of evangelism; he has been doing it while on campus and in his home village. Last year, he did a Kairos course which opened his eyes to people groups who are yet to receive the gospel; this gripped his heart as he continued to wrestle with it in prayer. Later on, we went with him on an exposure trip to Kaabong. While on the trip, it was made clear to him that truly, there are people out there with less access to the gospel compared to where he was coming from where churches are “mushrooming everyday everywhere” (his words). I remember him saying that he needs to align his priority to focus on those that don’t know God. It’s been a year now. Last month, he reached out to me and said ” I want to go back to the field and be trained, prepared to share the gospel where there is great need of labourers and to people who wait to hear the Good News and be discipled, to those who are not of my culture and language because these too God cares for.” At that moment, I praised God that he is recruiting a young man; I also thought it would be a challenge for this young man full of passion and zeal to be sent with sustainable support from his church. This month, I will be engaging his church in Rukungiri to send him while he prepares to be plugged in with the missionaries on the field for six months in Kaabong for equipping, learning and observing as he prepares to serve for the long haul.
Pray that God will keep the passion and fire burning in this young man’s life to do the will of God as his messenger. Pray for his home church, friends and family to support him on this journey as he responds to the call of God upon his life. Pray for me to find favour as I engage his church, and for successful preparations. Pray that the six months he will spend on the field preparing to be a missionary will draw him closer to God and grow his convictions too, and that this training will have an impact on his life. Pray for the hosting missionaries to be used by God as they faithfully train young people on the field.
