“An inevitable result” – a missionary moment
The ancient inhabitants of Southern Africa, the San Bushmen, still practice their hunting and tracking skills around the Kalahari desert. Though many are partially settled in towns, it is common for them to go out and stay in far-flung villages, where they collect food and hunt animals. They are known as some of the best trackers in the world.
During the covid shutdown in Namibia, they were unable to get any income from tourism, and food was scarce, so a food aid delivery was arranged through the missionaries, and handed over to the local church to distribute where the need was greatest. It was locked up in the church, but the next morning they discovered that a portion had been stolen during the night.
The Bushmen, of course, simply called on their tracking skills and traced the thief directly to his door some distance away. He never had a chance. It was an inevitable result!
